What went wrong with Pistons season? Everything

Posted by GameSetMatch on 14th April 2010

At a recent practice, Pistons coach John Kuester, enduring a season of frustration, had seen enough.

He screamed at his team and then punted the basketball as far as he could.
It has been that kind of season. The team that made six consecutive Eastern Conference finals thought it was starting a rebuilding process.

No one expected this — multiple 10-game losing streaks, a 26-55 record entering tonight’s finale in Minnesota, and little fan interest.
How could a team that seemed to have some promise fall so badly, so quickly?

Stuckey cleared for exercise

Posted by GameSetMatch on 11th March 2010

Rodney Stuckey doesn’t know when he will play again, but he hopes it will be this season.

Three doctors cleared Stuckey for exercise Wednesday after extensive cardiac tests. He collapsed on the bench during Friday’s game at Cleveland and was taken away on a stretcher. He missed Sunday’s game against Houston and will be out again Wednesday against Utah.

“I really don’t know what that means — they told me I can exercise, but I haven’t talked to anyone about if that means I can practice or what,” he said before the Utah game. “I want to play, but we’ll have to see what they tell me.”

Pistons coach John Kuester said he expects Stuckey to return to the lineup before the season is over, but said the team doesn’t have a timeline.

Pistons hope to snap skid vs. Knicks

Posted by GameSetMatch on 29th December 2009

The Detroit Pistons will attempt to put the brakes on a seven-game losing streak Tuesday, when they welcome the New York Knicks to The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Pistons will also play host to Chicago on the brief residency and are 8-6 at home this season. They suffered their seventh consecutive defeat on Sunday in a 102-95 decision at Toronto, as Richard Hamilton returned to the lineup from a sore right hamstring and scored 15 points for the Pistons

Ben Gordon netted 15 points off the bench, while Rodney Stuckey had 14 points, eight boards and five assists in a losing cause.

“Early in the game I didn’t feel like I had my legs, but it got better as the game went on,” Gordon said. “We had some decent looks later in the game, but just couldn’t make the shots.”

About Last Night: Rodney Stuckey’s fourth-quarter performance doesn’t absolve him of an awful rest of the game

Posted by GameSetMatch on 19th November 2009

The Detroit Pistons continued a hellacious West Coast swing in Portland on Wednesday night and the result was similar to the Pistons’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers the night before.

The Trail Blazers jumped out to a huge second-half lead and had to fend off a furious Pistons rally in the fourth quarter to escape with an 87-81 victory.

Here are some notes from the game:

Stuckey put it together too late: If you watch the highlights of the game or see the final stat line of 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, you might be fooled into thinking Rodney Stuckey had a decent game. That was definitely not the case

Injuries put Pistons’ up-tempo offense on hold

Posted by GameSetMatch on 10th November 2009

Coming into this season, it was expected that the Pistons would be a running team that would threaten to score 100 points on a nightly basis.

But after seven games the Pistons have only cracked the 100-point barrier one time and are averaging 91.3 points — 25th in the league after Sunday’s games.
Plans to bring showtime to the Palace were put on hold with major injuries to veterans Rip Hamilton (severely sprained right ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (ruptured disk).
