Bobcats’ Jackson has bruised knee

Posted by GameSetMatch on 19th April 2010

The Charlotte Bobcats say an MRI on Stephen Jackson’s hyperextended left knee shows a small bone bruise but no structural damage.

The Bobcats swingman said Monday he felt “way sorer” but expects to start in Game 2 against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. He sat out practice and had an ice wrap around the knee.

Jackson was injured when teammate Gerald Wallace dove for a loose ball and collided with him just before the first half of Game 1 ended Sunday. The Bobcats lost 98-89.

Bickerstaff’s proud of Bobcats’ path to playoffs

Posted by GameSetMatch on 14th April 2010

Bernie Bickerstaff’s estimation of the Charlotte Bobcats has a familiar tone.

“The only thing I know about them is, they compete,” said Bickerstaff, an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls, the Bobcats’ opponent tonight at Time Warner Cable Arena in both teams’ NBA regular-season finale. “They play hard every night.”

Bickerstaff was reminded that’s how the Bobcats were often described in the three seasons he was their head coach, beginning in their expansion year of 2004 through 2007. Night in, night out, Bickerstaff’s Bobcats played hard, played with intensity – and usually lost.

“Well, yes, that’s the way it was then,” he said, laughing. “But the (Bobcats’) talent level has been upgraded since I was there.”

Bucks bench Redd, Bogut as Wallace’s double-double sparks Bobcats

Posted by GameSetMatch on 29th December 2009

Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles contemplated making lineup changes before Monday’s game against Charlotte, but announced about an hour before tipoff that he’d decided to “give it another game and see how we do.”

Trailing by 22 at halftime of another miserable performance, Skiles had seen enough. And his moves jolted his struggling team.

Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut never took off their warmups in the second half of the Bucks’ 94-84 loss to the Bobcats. The team’s second- and third-leading scorers were benched after combining to shoot 1-for-10 and play little defense in a one-sided matchup of teams that figure to contend for one of the final Eastern Conference playoff spots.

“What do I need to say? We were 4-13 in our last 17 games, now 4-14 in our last 18,” Skiles said. “Everybody has got to look at themselves right now.”

Fines levied for in-game tweets

Posted by GameSetMatch on 30th November 2009

The NBA fined Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire and Charlotte Bobcats forward Tyson Chandler $7,500 each Sunday for posting to their Twitter accounts during games in violation of league rules.

Stoudemire’s Twitter feed was updated during the Suns’ 126-111 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, and Chandler tweeted a message the same night while the Bobcats were on their way to a 116-81 win over Toronto.

The league also fined Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace $30,000 for publicly criticizing officials following Boston’s 116-103 victory over Toronto on Friday night.

Bobcats’ Henderson dealing with rookie life

Posted by GameSetMatch on 19th November 2009

IT IS a rite of passage with NBA teams. The veterans always have something for the rookies to do. Bring the coffee. Buy the doughnuts. Deliver the newspapers.

Or, in the case of Charlotte Bobcats rookies Gerald Henderson and Derrick Brown, wear various colorful, sometimes sparkly, backpacks.

“The sillier the better,” Bobcats coach Larry Brown was saying before last night’s game against the 76ers. “They got Gerald a North Carolina one.”

They even got Bobcats guard Ray Felton, a former Tar Heel, to sign it. That would be Gerald Henderson, of Duke.

“He told me he burned it,” Brown said, laughing.

“That’s what I told him,” said Henderson, the onetime Episcopal Academy star. “That’s what I should have done. It’s somewhere long lost in my apartment. Now, they gave me a pink one. That’s OK. That’s better than Carolina. Anything is better than that.”
